Belgrade territory is divided into 17 munucipalities, each having its own local council. Belgrade has a moderate continental climate. The year-round average temperature is 11.7 °C (53.1 °F), while the hottest month is July, with an average temperature of 22.1 °C (71.8 °F). A settlement on today's location was founded in 3rd century BC by the Celts. It was named by the Romans as Singidunum. In 878 the Slavic name “White city” (“Beli grad”) first time appeared and Belgrade still bears this name. |
